Israel has illegally coerced almost 7,000 African migrants into returning to their home countries, where some face persecution, Human Rights Watch says.
‘Israel’s convoluted legal rules thwart Eritrean and Sudanese asylum seekers’ attempts to secure protection under Israeli and international law,’ New York-based HRW said in a statement accompanying the 83-page report published on Tuesday.
‘Israeli authorities have … denied them access to fair and efficient asylum procedures, and used the resulting insecure legal status as a pretext to unlawfully detain or threaten to detain them indefinitely, coercing thousands into leaving.’
Israel has come under fierce criticism from rights groups for its immigration policy and treatment of African asylum seekers, particularly over its Holot detention centre where illegal immigrants can be held for up to a year.
‘Israeli officials say they want to make the lives of ‘infiltrators’ so miserable that they leave Israel, and then claim people are returning home of their own free will,’ the report’s author Gerry Simpson wrote.
‘International law is clear that when Israel threatens Eritreans and Sudanese with lifelong detention, they aren’t freely deciding to leave Israel and risk harm back home.’

Nope. What disgusts me most is the way these creeps always, always base their slanders of Israel and Israelis on "international law". Only Israel and Israelis. As if any of them had any kind of knowledge about the law and international law at all.

There is a reason why Israel is a magnet for illegal immigrants who often go to extraordinary lengths in a desperate attempt to reach the country. Who are very often robbed, raped and left to die in the Sinai desert by human traffickers who quite frankly are a form of life about as low as you can get without leaving the human species.
It is because Israel, alone among all the countries of the region, is a decent civilised state that can be counted on to look after people who some how manage to get across the borders and demand asylum and protection.
That is all you need to know about this subject. That people like those who run this newspaper find this a reason to attack and criticise Israel, and only Israel, is also all we need to know about you.
