Happy Birthday To Me

Che Gorilla

My blog is twelve months old today. Che and the other bloke take great pride in that and especially in the fact that we have attracted about twice as many readers as what would attract regulation  from Finkelstein's Frankenstein if that abomination was ever to come to pass.

So in celebration I've decided to repost one of the posts that still attracts a few readers every day. Months after it was written in about five minutes and put up as a comment to another blog on the other side of the world and refused publication there.

The Off-Topic Post

geoffff

The truth that antizionism is the new antisemitism is no longer banned at Connexions, the blog of Methodist Minister Richard Hall.   Could this be the first sign of the tipping point that his pal, colleague and fellow blogger Kim Fabricius talks of? The paradigm shift that he prays for? That we all pray for?

It is however off-topic.

And I'm still banned from the thread where it was on-topic for having brought the subject up in the first place.

geoffff 10.06.12 at 12:43 am

No because I never implied that <snip>…</snip>
[Richard adds: I beg to differ, but we can leave it at that. I've done you the favour of removing the rest of the comment. I'm sure you didn't mean to take the thread off-topic.]

So would you like to see the full off-topic comment?  Not just the first six words?

You've come to the right place:

No because I never implied that and I most certainly have not lied..
What I implied is that the very notion that by now in the present and now antizionism is just another form of antisemitism so shocked and offended you, was in fact so silly that you deleted my comment and refused to hear anything more from me on that active thread.
You enforce that to this day. I have the pastes to prove it. Which part of the word “ban” do you take exception?.
The thing is Richard I think that antizionism is at the very core of the new antisemitism that is sweeping across the globe like a tsunami and I intend to keep on saying so because as a secular human rights activist I believe it is right to speak this truth to power. .
To do so is to defend human rights. Everyone’s human rights including the poor bloody “Palestinians” nurtured in perpetual grievance and pointed at a foreign enemy by their real foreign oppressors who rule by deploying Nazi era racial hatred against the Jews.
Also the human rights of the Syrians. Look at the horrors ahead for those people. How does destroying the human rights of Israelis help them?
The human rights of the remaining Christians in Muslim lands. The ancient Christian communities from Iraq through Syria Lebanon Gaza, PA controlled Judea and Samaria and even Egypt are dwindling and starting to pass into history like the Jews before them. What about their rights?.
The human rights of the women.
I believe that the mantra of the left that antizionism is not antisemitism is wrong. Antizionism means something much much more than criticism of Israeli policies.
I think that antizionism is offensive. Ignorance can not explain it. It never does. It involves holding impossibly contradictory views about Israel and Jews that are straight from the shelves of history.. It is at the very core of the new antisemitism and that should scare you.

Breaking News : Things Might Be Looking Up For Venezuela

geoffff

Venezuelan President and Iran's closest ally after Assad has just died of cancer, aged 58, already prompting the usual bizarre leftist crackpot conspiracy theories that the dictator who for fourteen years stood over a country where half the population live in abject poverty, despite its enormous resources and oil wealth, was poisoned by Mossad or the CIA or something.

One down. Two to go.

They're good. But they're not that good.

However, Chavez’ policies harmed Venezuela’s poorest in other ways: the value of the Venezuelan currency dropped while prices soared, making it harder for people to buy basic necessities, and crime skyrocketed.
Moreover, Chavez hurt the vulnerable in Venezuela in other ways. Chavez’s state-run media hounded Venezuela’s small, beleaguered Jewish population — he himself once said “Don’t let yourselves be poisoned by those wandering Jews.” A study released by the Kantor Center at Tel Aviv University found that Chavez’s rule “witnessed a rise in antisemitic manifestations, including vandalism, media attacks, caricatures, and physical attacks on Venezuelan Jewish institutions.” Indeed, roughly half of Venezuelan Jews fled the country because of “the social and economic chaos that the president has unleashed and from the uncomfortable feeling that they were being specifically targeted by the regime.”
Chavez also attacked Venezuela’s democratic political system. Human Rights Watch reported in 2012 that “the accumulation of power in the executive and the erosion of human rights protections have allowed the Chávez government to intimidate, censor, and prosecute critics and perceived opponents in a wide range of cases involving the judiciary, the media, and civil society.” Contra Serrano, Venezuela’s elections were not certified as “free and fair” by international monitors of late: Chavez had not allowed international election monitors to observe Venezuelan elections since 2006.
“Hugo Chavez was a tyrant who forced the people of Venezuela to live in fear. His death dents the alliance of anti-US leftist leaders in South America. Good riddance to this dictator.”
– Ed Royce, the Republican chairman of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs

Obama administration doubles-down on the Muslim Brotherhood

Mike L.

{Cross-posted at Israel Thrives and Pro-Israel Bay Bloggers.}

Here is Joe Biden at the AIPAC conference:
Only through engagement -- it’s only through engagement with Egypt that we can focus Egypt’s leaders on the need to repair international obligations -- respect their international obligations, including and especially its peace treaty with Israel. It’s only through active engagement that we can help ensure that Hamas does not re-arm through the Sinai and put the people of Israel at risk. It’s only through engagement that we can concentrate Egypt’s government on the imperative of confronting the extremists. And it’s only through engagement that we can encourage Egypt’s leaders to make reforms that will spark economic growth and stabilize the democratic process. And it’s all tough, and there’s no certainty. There’s no certainty about anything in the Arab Spring.
"Engagement" seems to be the word by which the Obama administration means giving the fascist and anti-Semitic government in Egypt billions of dollars in financial assistance, as well as Abrams tanks and F-16 fighter jets, in return for virtually nothing.

Biden was correct about one thing, however, there is no certainty about anything in the so-called "Arab Spring."  However, if this is the case, why did the administration cheer-lead it so enthusiastically?  It was obvious two years ago that these uprisings and riots and murders and rapes which we collectively know as the "Arab Spring" were maybe not such a good thing.  It seemed pretty clear, pretty early, that what we were seeing was not the rise of democracy under the leadership of westernized "Facebook kids," but the rise of right-wing Muslim theocratic fascism.

If I suspected this merely from reading the newspapers, how is it that Barack Obama did not?  This is not just some minor misstep by the Obama administration, but in fact an absolutely colossal screw-up of the very highest order.  This will be recognized as “an act of stupidity that will resonate for generations.”

And now they tell us that they must continue to give U.S. tax dollars to the Brotherhood in the hopes that they can reform it?  Really?  Is that how it works?, because I do not see much reformation of Hamas, which is the Brotherhood in Gaza.

Obama's foreign policy legacy will be that of assisting the Brotherhood and the rise of right-wing Islamic fascism in the Middle East.  In terms of foreign policy, the central question that future historians will ask themselves is how is it that an American president would support the rise of American enemies in a vital part of the world?  How is it that an American president was willing to undermine U.S. relations with a key ally there in order to facilitate the rise of political Islam?

These are among the key questions to ask and if you are not asking yourself such questions then you are not honestly evaluating the Obama administration.

If, in consideration of Obama's foreign policy, you cannot bring yourself to ask such questions then you are not analyzing the administration, but revering it.

Revery can be very nice in a dream-like sort of way, but neither revery, nor reverence, constitute analysis.  What they constitute in politics is sycophancy.

Muslims attacking Copts in Egypt over false rumor

From Al Ahram:
A rumour has spread in the Upper Egyptian city of Kom Ombo that a divorced Muslim woman in her mid-30s has been kidnapped by the Coptic Church and converted to Christianity. In an area socially divided across tribal loyalties and religion, the story managed to fuel violence against the area's Christian minority.

The city's most central and largest church, Mar Girgis, has been under attack for the past three days from what residents described as "unknown assailants." Mostly in their teens, hundreds of young boys and men have been surrounding the church, showering it with rocks and Molotov cocktails.

With Central Security Forces (CSF) trucks and soldiers fighting the assailants with teargas grenades, the church was relatively protected, although Molotov cocktails and rocks managed to reach its roofs and its open central courtyard.

A field hospital was set up in one of the corners of the courtyard while many of the injured sat inside the church resting, others praying. One young man in the church had obviously burned skin on his arms and back, which he said he suffered from one of the Molotov cocktails thrown at the church.

"The missing woman is not in this church as you can see … Her family never claimed she was," Priest Abanob Wahid of the Mari Girgis Church of Kom Ombo told Ahram Online.

The violence is not only limited to the church. Seventeen-year-old Copt Abanob, whose arm was covered with medical bandages, explained he was attacked by a young man also in his teens who had first asked him whether or not he was Christian.

Egyptian Copts Warn Against Islamic Conference

geoffff

From an Egyptian Copt friend of Shirlee

Dear Friends,
Many of you will be aware of the violent protests opposing Geert Wilders expressing his views in a country that apparently espouses and defends Freedom of Speech.
On March 15,16,17, a radical Muslim group (The Islamic Research and Educational Academy - IREA) aims to host a 3 day “Peace Conference” at the Melbourne Showgrounds in Ascot Vale.

Although it is being promoted as an interfaith program which ‘welcomes people of all faiths’, an audiotape of a planning meeting in December shows its real intent.
The organiser, Waseem Razvi, said at that meeting: “Comparative Religion is our tool which we use to convey the message of Islam…we want to make Islam the fastest growing religion [in Australia] in the next five years …we need to have interfaith, multifaith and debates with the non-Muslim community to engage them, and to bring them over to Islam… We don’t accept every religion.
We are there to convey the message that Islam is the only right religion …We want the dawah [Islamic propagation] to reach the authorities. So unless we invite them for an event like this, if you call the Prime Minister to the Islamic centre or the mosque, it’s not going to happen, so we need to have a bigger event … so we can convey the message to them…The title of the conference is Australian Islamic Peace conference... but the main purpose of the entire conference is dawah.
So most of our topics will be revolving around dawah.” 1000 preachers of Islam are being trained for this event, according to the IREA website IREAWORLD.org

The taped meeting also revealed the following:

(1) The Prime Minister, Premier, Commissioner of Police, MPs, church leaders, and other community leaders were being invited in the hope that they will become Muslims

(2) The 20 invited international speakers (who are all Muslims) have been banned from countries such as the UK and Canada for promoting terrorism, or called for the annihilation of the Jews, endorsed violent jihad, villified gay people, made misogynist statements, promoted circumcision (i.e. genital mutilation) of girls, and advocated the execution of those who leave Islam.

(3) The local Muslim speakers, listed on the IREA website, have encouraged the beating of women, spoken in support of known terrorists and called for Sharia law in Australia.

(4) The organiser Waseem Razvi endorses the amputation of hands (of thieves) and the death penalty (for adulterers). He is an Islamic supremacist, claiming that “Muslims are the best of mankind” and that “Islam will be victorious over all other religions”.

(5) The Conference will be used to launch 20 Islamic schools in Australia to fund Muslim preachers using teacher salaries. Children as age as 5 will also be trained for Islamic outreach using curriculum from Saudi Arabia.

(6) The Conference will segregate men and women in accordance with fundamentalist Islamic law – no women speakers are listed.
As Australians we condemn the Prime Minister attending an event that has the sole aim of propagating and Islamising Australia. The ALP as an entity has failed to preserve and protect traditional Australian values, traditions and heritage. Many citizens hold the strong view, the appearance by Ms. Gillard is nothing more than a political driven move aimed at securing the muslim vote consequently empowering their agenda.
We oppose and reject the failed experiment of Multiculturalism, which has been abused by dogmatic sections of the Islamic community. The term Multiculturalism has become a divisive tool in society and must be replaced with a policy centred on "assimilation" & "Integration".
Political correctness has been embraced by this Government and used to demonise any person that voices concern about Multiculturalism or raises concern about the intent of some in the muslim community. Exercising our right to freedom of speech no results in slurs such a "racist", "bigot", "Islamophobic" and the like, these terms are used solely to discredit and silence those raising valid and genuine concerns.
There is no longer a balanced approach by this government in acknowledging and addressing these concerns. The Governments failure to condemn and utterly reject any notion or suggestion of changing the face of Australia or islamisation is reprehensible.
At the same time this government is playing a dangerous game of duplicity in so far as they are contacting leaders of middle eastern Christian churches offering to visit their churches in the lead up to the elections.
In response, we would like you to do the following:

· (1) Contact Mark O’Sullivan CEO, Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), Melbourne Showgrounds, Epsom Road ASCOT VALE 3031 Email: info@melbourneshowgrounds.com Phone: (03) 9281 7444. Tell him that this event is being misrepresented in its advertising and is likely to cause social disruption in the Australian community based on past statements of the invited speakers. It should be cancelled under RASV regulation 7.2 (i) See http://www.rasv.com.au/Files_Content/general_regulations_non_animal.pdf . Major sponsors of the RASV include the Australian International Beer Awards and the Royal Melbourne Wine Show

(2) Cut and paste the above information (do not use the ‘Forward’ facility) and send it onto your MP, newspapers and church leaders to warn people about not attending this bogus “Peace Conference”.

Some articles which give details about these and other aspects of this conference are attached, as well as a transcript of the audio of the planning meeting.

Shirlee Has Some Words

Che Gorilla

A post from blog friend Shirlee Finn freshly snitched from Daphne Anson

What Ails Australian Jewry's Leaders? A Concerned Jew Speaks Out

This is a guest blog by communal personality Shirlee Finn of Sydney, who is no stranger to my regular readers.

She writes:

It appears our Community Leaders in Australia have what is commonly known as the ‘British Disease’ They wonder why people want no part of the mainstream organisations . Instead of standing up and showing that we are strong, they issue weak statements. I and many, many others think it's high time they consulted with the Community to find out what they actually think. They will be unpleasantly surprised that most people don't go along with their views. They will find they are clearly out of step with main stream thinking in regards to Islam and the joke called 'multiculturalism'

In November, in a show of support for Israel in light of Operation Pillar of Cloud, Jewish communities nationwide wide held rallies to show solidarity with Israel. To be honest I have no idea what Perth and Brisbane communities did, but Melbourne and Sydney organised rallies. Melbourne’s went ahead as scheduled in a park.

Sydney’s? That’s a whole other issue. Many people decided to give it a miss because they felt that a ‘park in Bondi’ was hardly the appropriate place for a show of solidarity. They felt the City should have been the venue of choice.

At the allotted time I turned up at the designated park to find Community Security ushering people into the Mizrachi Synagogue. I was quite appalled. Where was this show of solidarity if we were hidden away? I was angry but went inside, but only for a few moments until a man took the microphone and said exactly what I was thinking. I was one of only a handful to leave in disgust. In fact I left altogether. The excuse for hiding us away apparently was a security issue, but what of those who couldn’t get inside?

Angry beyond words, I wrote a Letter to the Editor of the AJN – Australian Jewish News. I was told later that as much as they agreed with my letter, it was very strong and they were worried about publishing it. They even had a meeting to discuss it. Something apparently very out of the ordinary and the consensus was to publish it.
“I thank and congratulate the ZCNSW [State Zionist Council of New South Wales] for organising the Solidarity Rally last weekend so well and so quickly
Though I am ashamed.
Ashamed that it was deemed necessary to hide away one third of the people who attended the rally for supposed security reasons .
Whose security pray tell? Seeing as to how two thirds of people were in the park?
I enquired about the people outside, to be told they would have to cope!
So then whose security were we speaking of?
The elite few?
If it was such a security risk, why then were there only so few police in attendance?
Haven’t we done with hiding and running away? Haven’t we done enough of that down through the ages?
No more running.
We should be finished with that.
Haven’t enough died?
Why aren’t we openly displaying our support for Israel?
People like my father who proudly and openly proclaimed their Jewishness in the East End of London, in the face of Oswald Mosley and his Fascist Party, must be turning in their graves.
I can still clearly see ‘The Blackshirt’ newspaper sitting on the kitchen table, showing a photo of my father with the words “We have to put an end permanently to this man, not only is he a Communist, he is a Jew”.
My father never hid, he never cowered. He stood proud and tall. He refused protection.
It was instilled into me never to be afraid even whilst the death threats were current and I was only allowed out with Police protection.
Let’s stand up and be counted with no more hiding.”
I waited for the backlash from our Community Leaders – and gurnisht/nothing. Not a peep. I did however hear from people I don’t know agreeing with me.

There should have been some kind of reaction from Leadership in regards to an incident on KKL/JNF -Green Sunday. Did it happen? NO!!

The AJDS – Australian Jewish Democratic Society – despite being a "Jewish" organisation, is virtually like having the enemy in our midst. They are commonly called "the enemy within". They are group with extreme leftist views and do all they can to demonise Israel.

To my way of thinking, and that of many, many others, this is just not on.  If take issue and you want to air it and you live in the Diaspora – don’t. You have no right. You are not an Israeli citizen. If you want that right then go and live there

On January 21st the Executive of the AJDS submitted the following letter to the Australian Jewish News ahead of a major fundraising drive by the Jewish National Fund.
'With the Jewish National Fund (JNF) “Green Sunday” coming up, this year raising money for projects in the Beersheva region, there are some important reasons why we need to think carefully about the role that the JNF plays in Israel. For instance,
* Despite some tinkering due to recent court cases in Israel, the JNF charter prohibits the sale or renting of land to non-Jews. Yet Israel is supposed to be a state for all its citizens. Would we support such a form of discrimination against defined groups of citizens in Australia?
* The JNF receives land from the forced removal of Bedouin villages in the Negev. While the JNF claims that such Bedouin settlements are unlawful, the deliberate resettlement of indigenous populations such as the Bedouin (and they are classified as such) clearly breaches international protocols. One village, Al Araqib, has been demolished 45 times, and its demolition orders are currently facing Supreme Court appeal.
* For decades now, the JNF’s forests have been used to cover up destroyed Palestinian villages. The villagers, many of whom fled and were not involved in hostilities, have no right to return or to claim compensation.
* The JNF continues to plant pine trees even though it is very clear that this is environmentally irresponsible and contributes to devastating forest fires. They are the wrong trees for the local environment.
* The JNF is active in the Occupied Territories, through its involvement with evictions of Palestinians in East Jerusalem. Supporting the Occupation in this way politicises the JNF in a very divisive way.
here are more ethical, non-discriminatory and environmentally-friendly organisations in Israel which deserve the support of the Australian Jewish community. These include the Green Environment Fund and Friends of the Earth Middle East, as well as Israeli hospitals which offer treatment without fear or favour, and of course, social development organisations supported by the New Israel Fund and other organisations. With the establishment of Israel over 65 years ago, it’s past time for us to think seriously about our support for the JNF.'
The paper's editor indicated that he would not publish it.  That being the case, the AJDS then decided that “the Australian Jewish community was being hindered from hearing other voices by a media outlet which considered itself inclusive and authoritative.”

Yes, AJDS, that’s because once again you are demonising Israel, and a Jewish publication won’t do your dirty work!

This group of extreme leftists then decided their best plan of action was to demonstrate, hand out flyers and cause a ruckus outside of the JNF offices, so much so, in their own words
“3 squad cars were called by the powers that be and even more security back up.”
Note: The protesters were initially rumoured to be from the Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS), although this was refuted by AJDS co-President Harold Zwier:
“I know there were some AJDS people who may have taken part in it but it wasn’t an AJDS event”
I question that fact as their President was part of the group and it was after all posted ontheir Facebook page

As you would expect their version was a far different one to that of the volunteers at the JNF offices:  (See here)
This is just one of the antics the AJDS get up to and yet the JCCV [Jewish Community Council of Victoria] have no issue with them being an affiliate. It’s high time our Community Organisations stood up to the noisy minority and listened to the Community as a whole.

Somehow our Community Leaders felt threatened by the presence of Geert Wilders in this country.

Geert Wilders is one of the most pro-Israel supporters on this planet. What an insult.!

The ECAJ – Executive Council of Australian Jewry – supported by other Community Organisations issued a Statement extolling the virtues of multiculturalism, which we all know is an abysmal failure and has ‘ghettoised’ the country.

Likewise the one released by the JCCV.

The ECAJ is the umbrella organisation which claims it speaks for the entire Jewish Community in Australia. The JCCV purportedly represents the Jewish Community in Victoria, it appears to most that all it does is to pander to the loony left, aka ‘the enemy within’.

As is my norm I blog and comment all over the Internet for Israel and just about everywhere I went I was seeing comments about how the Jewish Community should be supporting Geert Wilders and the statements put out were pathetic.

Andrew Bolt, who is a strong Israel supporter, also made comment on his Blog. (See here)

He says:
“Depressingly, he [Wilders] has even been shunned by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and Jewish community leaders. [And quotes the pathetic statement from the ECAJ.] It seems to me that political or community advantage is being put before principle – and fear is preventing a rational discussion of Wilders’ message.”
No one was expecting the Community Leaders to come out and say they support Wilders. This is one time they could have said nothing. There was no need for such a pathetic non-statement.

I have firsthand accounts from people who were at the Melbourne and Sydney events. The audience consisting of mainly non-Jews. At both events I am told that when Wilders acknowledged that Israel has every right to exist, it raised a huge ovation.

Wilders has spoken in Israel. He has also spoken at various shuls in the USA and I believe Congress and we can’t support him here? The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has announced its strong support for him and we are busy having little Muslim/Jewish cooking sessions. How truly pathetic is that?

Haven’t we had enough? Why are we so quiet?

Why aren’t we out there voicing our opinion against Islamic speakers Taji Mustafa and Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, both of whom will be here this month, who are both on record making antisemitic remarks? By that I don’t mean making statements and posting them on J-Wire or the ECAJ website

Whilst I am raving, I have questions which many people are talking about.

Why on earth is the AJDS an affiliate of the JCCV? A group of people who are trying to bring Israel to her knees. I realise we have a very strong representation of the Jewish Extreme Left in Melbourne, but why are we pandering to them? As an extension to that fact, why then is the JCCV an affiliate of the ECAJ?

I think they need to read the extraordinary number of comments on J-Wire to see what people think. I am constantly asked why the Community at large don’t see fit to join our Community Organisations. I think that is pretty clear. It’s for the same reasons I dropped out of the Community for so many years. To tell you the truth, if it wasn’t for the friendship of one person, I too would be long gone, because I feel I am hitting my head up against a brick wall.

Professor Ruth Wisse: The Arab War Against the Jews

Mike L.

{Cross-Posted at Israel Thrives and Pro-Israel Bay Bloggers.}

Harvard Professor of Yiddish and Literary Studies, Ruth Wisse, is the author of the very important work, Jews and Power.  I've put a recent video of Professor Wisse on the right side-bar of Israel Thrives and will leave it there for a week or so.  I would very much encourage you guys to give her a close listen because her view is both pristine and correct.  This is someone who is not the least bit muddled in her thinking on the Long Arab War Against the Jews.

This conflict is not a conflict between equals.  It is an aggression from the much larger Arab-Muslim population in the Middle East toward their former dhimmis and slaves.  It represents a hatred toward pluralism in that part of the world by the Arab majority and the refusal to accept the legitimacy of another people on their own land.

She argues, correctly, that anti-Zionism is actually worse than anti-Semitism because it incorporates all that anti-Semitism is while expanding it to deny Jewish sovereignty and Jewish self-defense on the land where Jews historically came from.

She also maintians that the organization of politics around hatred for the Jew within the Muslim Middle East, as well as within the international left, is not really about the Jews, at all, but about opposition to liberal democracy.  The Jewish State of Israel is merely a proxy.  It is a fashionable target through which opposition to liberal democracy, and therefore the United States, organizes itself.

One thing is certain, if political anti-Semitism, which is the very definition of anti-Zionism, means anything it means portraying Jews as a villain, either as Jews, individually, or in the collective, for the purpose of building political bridges with others around a common hatred.

My problem with the international left, and with "progressive Zionists," is that they accept the fundamental notion of Jewish guilt upon which the entire ideological structure of political anti-Zionist anti-Semitism is built.

In this way, whatever their best intentions, they nonetheless promote the kind of hostility toward us that results in violence and mass killings and war.

Until we recognize that we are not guilty of the charges leveled against us (and we aren't) then we can never convince anyone else of this truth and therefore we can never relieve ourselves of this perpetual hostility.

If "as-a-Jew" you tend to think that the Jews of the Middle East, via the government of Israel, is persecuting the Arabs under an imperialistic "Occupation" then you are promoting hatred toward us based on false grounds.  There is no "Occupation."  There is 6 million Jews surrounded by 400 million Arabs and those Jews want nothing so much in this world other than to be left the hell alone.

What you call the "Occupation" is nothing other than the means of an historically abused minority to finally protect itself from a much larger and hostile majority population in a part of the world where, outside of Israel, itself, very few people share your values of "social justice" and "human rights."
